Podcast 113: Salmon and Spooky

On this week's show we talk about salmon. Farmed salmon from the Faroe Islands is becoming increasingly sought after by chefs in top kitchens in both US and UK. This week, we talk to the man responsible for marketing Faroese salmon to the rest of the world.

Also, we head back to the spooky tunnels north of Klaksvik to see if the ghosts will turn up for a second performance.

As always, you can listen on iTunes or on the media player at the top of the page. Or you can download the show directly here:

And, if you want to hear the ghosts from the tunnel last year, here's the link to the 2010 Halloween podcast:

And for the most brave among you, here's the raw audio from the 2010 tunnel recording:

Have fun. Also, pay attention because we're having a SECOND podcast this week where we'll talk about the Faroese elections this week.

Podcast 112: Kalsoy

This week, an extra-long show devoted entirely to the mysterious island of Kalsoy.

This rugged island is home to four small villages. We visit all of them as part of our quest to find someone who actually actually lives on the island. We end up spending some time with a 17-year-old Trollanes resident named Alfred (pictured above) and he shares with us some of the history of his village of only 16 people.

As always, you can listen on iTunes, on our media player above, or you can download the show directly here:

And as promised, here's some video of me leaving Kalsoy on the ferry...

Podcast 111: Checking in With Shetland

This week, we talk to the tourism coordinator for Shetland (not pictured above). He was on the show last year, now he's back in the Faroes with a planeload of Shetlanders. Our good friend Heri Simonsen (also not pictured above) talks to Andy Stephen about tourism in Shetland, and about slowly improving links between the Faroes and their closest neighbors.

Then we (not pictured above) get a bite at City Burger in Torshavn (pictured above).
